Description

Cubana, the national flag carrier of Cuba was created in 1929. Currently the airline is undergoing a modernization of its fleet ; Just Planes was lucky to visit the airline prior to this change and catch the Ilyushin 62 in action! The IL-62 first flew in 1963 and is currently in service with only a couple of airlines. This is a wonderful occasion to discover this aircraft with a roundtrip flight to Bogota, Colombia, in the cockpit. The program includes a walkaround, a cockpit presentations, cabin views and service and a lot more! Also includes are domestic flights on the Antonov 24 and Yakovlev 42 as well as a flight on the Yak 42 to Costa Rica and Guatemala. The DVD also includes a visit of Cubana's maintenance facility, Havana runway action and more...

Cubana AN-24RV • IL-62M • YAK-42D

The Ilyushin Il-62M alone makes this one a keeper. Wonderful and enjoyable program!

 Sullybiker,
A unique record, more than the sum of its parts

The IL62M is a fascinating bit of history, and you get a great ride-along here; if you're used to the normal JP oeuvre, it's something completely different. An aircraft from a different time, and yet utterly compelling.

The AN-24 (underrepresented on JP, sadly) chapter is great, if a little short, and its 50s origins mixed with some thoroughly modern Garmin goodies (also seen on the IL-62M) is quite interesting.

The Yak-42 is something a little different; you get the usual couple of cockpit flights, but the remainder are what one would consider trip reports with many window views and b-roll. It works well because the type and country are not somewhere many people are likely to experience.
